What is an Apostille?

What is an Apostille? or What is Apostille? are two frequently asked questions. The term Apostille is a French word that simply means “certification”.

An Apostille is a document that has been authenticated or legalized, allowing the legal use of the document abroad.  The Apostille is issued by the Secretary of State, from which the legal document originated.

Apostilles do not certify the content of the public document to which they relate. They do not grant authority, and they do not give any additional weight to the content of the underlying documents.

Apostille services online enable our office to process Apostilles directly from the issuing Secretary of State throughout all 50 US states. US Apostille services online processing is very convenient for US citizens living abroad.

An Apostille may never be used to recognize a document in the country where that document was issued. Apostilles are strictly for using public legal documents abroad. US Apostille Services are not for documents intended for use within the United States.

What is a notary Public?

A Notary Public or Notary is a public official authorized by law and appointed by a state government to serve the public in non-contentious affairs. Examples of common non-contentious affairs that typically require notarial services include general financial transactions, estates, deeds, powers of attorney, and foreign and international business.

A Notary's responsibility is to verify the identity of signers of important legal documents, ensure that they are free from coercion or intimidation and that they are informed of the transaction's terms before they agree to sign. In some notarizations, the Notary must also administer an oath, under penalty of perjury, declaring that the information in the legal document is true and correct.

Online Notary services are now being offered in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Remote Online Notary services make it possible for document online notarizations to be performed remotely, making the process much easier and more convenient.
